Bought this fabulous table, what do I do now?

I bought this table for my dining room (not as a dining room table to eat on) Now trying to figure out just what to put on it and arrange it just so. Also wondering what to do with all the empty space below. I would like to get some storage use out of that space given the fact that the table takes up lots of room.
New antique table need some suggestions on what to do with it. I want to leave the finish and paint as is.

How about two tall wicker baskets? Love the table!

@Mommom49 My thoughts, too. I was thinking wicker baskets wide enough to be supported by the long horizontal pieces of wood that run on the front and back.

I love it! It would make a great sofa table or even a craft table!

The baskets for storage. Sound good. But I see a couple of lamps , maybe a tray holding some large shells or books. Perhaps a large box of some sort on th the top for extra storage. Very the heights. Of the decoratve items plus incorporate the room's colors via a small painting on an easel or propped against the books or chest. Just try to add interest that picks up the theme or colors of your dining room.

I'm with Robin, I thought Sofa Table, great for family pics. Or perhaps a Kitchen Island by adding on to the legs. Hard to tell someone how to decorate, without knowing their design aesthetic ;-)

The baskets for storage is great. On top I see a painted tray with flea market vases and bottles all sprayed the same color. Baskets could be sprayed a coordinating color, too.

If you collect anything, you may want to make a grouping. Varying the heights of the objects will add interest. The baskets mentioned several times are a great idea. Please take pictures once you decide what to do with it.

I was thinking adding a shelf on bottom and making into kitchen island.

Antique suitcases stacked underneath would provide some storage. You could add feet to the bottom and wood slats across the existing bottom wood pieces to create a shelf. A couple of lamps would add interest as well as displaying collectible platters, pitchers, etc. a runner would add color and texture. Most of all have fun finding the look you want :)

Love the piece and agree - don't refinish! Possibly rest a glass shelf on bottom, and display large platter on metal easel type holder? On top two tall thin lamps and any seasonal pieces. It can be used in any room. GREAT FIND!

I like the glass idea, I didn't think of that one. And its inexpensive. I got the table for $225 which I thought was a good buy but it started sounded like I was going to spend even more just trying to make use of the space.

It's one of those pieces of furniture that you can use in any area. I have a mirror over mine in the dining room to use in displaying 2 tall thin lamps and a seasonal grouping. I do have a shelf and have placed two stained wooden storage boxes in the past....very universal. You'll enjoy it!

it is beautiful. I think anything that matches your decor could sit under it for storage. Open or closed. I have a large crock under my desk /console . Hope we get to see what you do

Well its home and in place in the dining room. Right now I have a brown leather storage ottoman that was taking up space under the table but I did see some baskets I have my eye on. I am also going to talk to the guy at the local glass place to find out it a if a piece of glass that big would be economical and supportive enough. THANK YOU so much for all your ideas, I love this blog, website and app. If I ever get it all together I will post a picture (I'm actually having the DR painted so it might be awhile).

I found a huge basket at Marshalls for $25.00 and a smaller cloth basket in a nice color green that says toys on it where my dog's toys will go. I'm getting the wall behind it painted a light teal color. Also bought a nice tall candle stick with the same color green candle and I have a bright navy blue ceramic Buddha head on the way, not sure I want to mix that with the french country thing I have going on but I like to combine the looks skillfully if possible. Also have a huge sepia photograph of my dog that died a few months back that I may lay against the wall on the table. I will post a pic when its all together. Thanks everyone!!
