Breakfast Room

I call this room my Memory Room. Its where so much of our lives have taken place - dinners, breakfasts, crafts - you name it. The breakfast room table has its shares of scratches and scars and I love every single one. I recently went from a Red color scheme to one with Blues and Khakis. I LOVE this space. And my table still has all of its "life marks."

This looks more like a dining room, it's so pretty! Love the combination of khaki and blue. Your hutch is beautiful with all the blue and white dishes. Great deal on those chairs!

Thanks ladies. I will admit the chairs steal the show in this room. Even having to buy six, I could not pass up the deal at $59 each and they are amazingly, very good quality chairs.

Oh really. I would have grabbed them babies too. A pair can cost you more than you got all six for!

I just popped into your blog again and noticed you have a son in Iraq. I know just what you are going through. Our son was there in 02 and 03. Luckily he had his laptop with him so we chatted now and then, but the phone calls were the best. Can you imagine how awful it was for parents during ...»

other wars when there wasn't this type of communication? By the time they got the snail mail it was all old news. And I'm sure not every soldier wrote letters. I'll add your son to my prayers.

Hi, love your color scheme that you chose, especially with the painted Hutch & dining table being dark. I have a similar situation: Hutch is black, but dining table in oak. Do you think I would be too adventurous in putting a dark stain on my dining table? I have a total of 3 leaves that go w/my table, would I also have to stain those also or just the part of table I use mainly??? Thanks for your help! Love, love your room!!

Hi Lynn - thanks so much for your kind words. This is the fave room in my house and where I sit most mornings to blog. :) I think a dark stain on your table would work well, especially since you have a black hutch. Now, it sounds like they are not connected, and I think the darker stain will do just that. One other thing to think about, since you also have (3) leaves to think about - is to leave the top and the leaves in the oak ...»
color, and paint the apron and legs of the table black to match the hutch. This is a beautiful look which I am getting ready to do something similar. If you wanted a bit more rustic appearance to the tabletop, you could "distress" it and then apply the darker stain. As for the leaves, I think they would need to match the tabletop, unless you always use a tablecloth whenever they are in place, in which it would not matter if they did not match. But, if you did stain them, I would personally take the extra time to make the leaves match, in the chance you used them and did not want to use a tablecloth. I hope this helps. Good luck, and let me know what you decided. :) Blessings, Barb

I appreciate your advise, Barb! Sounds like a job getting ready to do on a long weekend...I'm not much about staining! Ha! But I am going to do it though...you've got me inspired!! I'll also keep a watch on those Parson's chairs from Kirkland's when they are marked down on sale, because I have always loved them. When I finish, I will send a photo to you so you'll see how I did. God bless you!!
