Other than glowing jack-o-lanterns on Halloween night, I’ve never really been one to decorate for Halloween. I’m just not a big fan of the color orange and honestly, I think a lot of Halloween decorations tend to border on the tacky side.
But after my kids went to a friend’s house that was totally decked out in Halloween decor, they began to ask, “Why don’t we have any Halloween decorations at our house?” It was then that I realized that I needed to get in the spirit of the holiday and bring some Halloween into our house. For the kids.
But there had to be a compromise. I wasn’t going to go overboard and it had to look somewhat tasteful. And no orange.
After some Pinterest perusing and a quick trip to Michael’s, here is what I came up with for our mantel…

Almost everything I used were things I either made or already had. However, I did have to purchase the crow, Spanish moss and skeleton hand because what I had at home just wasn’t enough to complete the look.
