A Kitchen Renovation for a client who enjoyed a forest for a view and cross breezes like she grew up with in Florida.
*Options I considered for this project:
It was obvious the sink needed to stay on the outside wall where it existed, but we needed to capitalize on the view.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
When I learned the client loved the cross breezes created by operable windows, I decided open up the view of the entire wall, using a series of awning style windows as a backsplash which not only achieved the breezes she was after, but also bathed the counters with natural light.
*My motivation to do this project:
The client wanted to update their existing Kitchen for entertaining and family enjoyment.
*Project Steps:
I stepped out of my comfort zone to suggest the radical idea of an entire wall of horizontal windows as a backsplash and the effect was stunning. I have slways wanted to replicate it for myself.
Advice:
It would have been easy to limit myself to the obvious solution keeping the existing sink and window in tact, but we never would have realized how wonderful this space could really be. Consider hiring a designer to help you explore all your options before commiting to spending the money on a renovation. Often times it costs just as much to do it wrong as it does to do ti right.
The horizontal windows provided the cross breezes the client wanted, capitalizing on a wonderful forestry view while bathing the counters with light.
