Installing ceramic floor in kitchen
*Options I considered for this project:
Ceramic Floor was really my only interest for the kitchen
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
I had to get a few extra pieces of ceramic wood cut in the middle of the project.
* Cost Comments:
.99 per square foot.
*My motivation to do this project:
I was not satisfied with the previous floor in the kitchen.
*Project Steps:
1. Clear out all items in kitchen
2. Pry off molding and label each piece for putting back in place
3. Scrape old vinyl floor and toss pieces in trash. Remove adhesive from the sub-floor by scraping it off.
4. Mark center of point of room. Measure each wall and mark the center point. Pull a chalk line between the points of opposing wall and pop.
5. Measure and mark t he edge tiles to cut
6.Cut trim pieces using a wet saw equipped with a blade.
7.After you have dry-fit the tiles then lay them out an mix up some adhesive.
8. Remove just a few tiles and spread a layer of mortar with the towel. Move fast because the mortar will start setting in about 20 to 30 minutes.
9. Place tile back and press to get a good fit.
10. After all the tiles are in place wait a couple of days then go back and place the group in between.
11. Mix the grout according to directions in a large bucket. Grout is ready when it holds its shape. Remove the plasic spacers before you apply.
12. Place a heaping pile of grout on the floor and start working in the cracks. with a towel.
13. Continue until all cracks are full.
14. Use a sponge its better to use one that has a rounded edge and a bucket with clean water to clean up tiles. The rounded edge you will see it will keep the grout from all those cracks.
Replace all moldings back into place and when cleaning a new floor I found out that a few weeks later to apply a sealer. This was the best I could do for the first time. It not a professional job but it saved me lots of money and the floor is still in place!!!!
Advice:
Don't do this without a little help from a friend or family member it was hard!
