How to fill an empty space in my home?
I'd love your thoughts on what kinds of furniture, wall decor & whatever else you think would look good there. Thanks in advance for your kind & helpful advice!

The Residences At The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain on Oct 20, 2014A variety of vintage empty frames / Mirrors would look great on the walls. Like this: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/309833649336844461/Helpful Reply

Anna @Annabode on Oct 20, 2014If you're going for vintage industrial, I'd paint the walls white and paint the doors and trim in black. Add a vintage runner with some pattern, and an industrial pendant light (etsy and schoolhouse electric are both great for that). I don't think you need to decorate a hallway any more than that, but you could add a floor length mirror to the back wall to open up the space. Here are a couple that would work: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50038213/ http://www.westelm.com/products/floating-wood-floor-mirror-w538/?pkey=cfloor-mirrors&cm_src=floor-mirrors||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- good luck!Helpful Reply

Cecelia on Oct 21, 2014How about a gallery of black and white art in vintage frames. I would also add trim moulding to give some architecture around the gallery, painting the inside area a contrast colorHelpful Reply

Jeanette S on Oct 21, 2014Oh Dear! My mind is leaping in every direction! When I see a space like this, my first thought is "storage"! I see pipe fittings attached to the wall to hold shelves,,,I recall a post on HT where rods were hung above the backsplash of counter tops and storage containers hung from them. I believe they came from Ikea. If you are handy, you can configure your own setup! Wire baskets (great for holding books), etc. There are all kinds of wire devices available...even some that hold pots for plants!Helpful Reply

Marge on Oct 21, 2014Since the closet door opens and may hit the left side of the wall, you could only put items that protrude about 2-3" away from the wall. You could put bead wood on the bottom half of each wall with a trim. I think this is called wanescoating (sp).Helpful Reply

Barbara Webb on Oct 21, 2014How about a rogues gallery. Take all of the OLD pictures of relatives and have them framed nicely and hung in the hallway. Your kids probably don't remember Aunt Gert, but you do, and you have storys to tell the kids of all the things you remember about there relatives that perhaps have passed or that you remember as a kid.Helpful Reply

Debbie on Oct 21, 2014I would hunt for a metal piece, such as a portion of fencing, a metal sewing machine cabinet leg, iron brackets, etc. to hang on the wall. Keep your floor clear so it doesn't get cluttered. You could also hang a plummer pipe with framed picture hanging by wire from it.Helpful Reply

Gwyn on Oct 21, 2014Definitely a full length mirror on the closet wall, surrounded by black framed vintage pictures from the time period you are using. These could be of relatives, automobiles, buildings, etc. or a combination of all. I agree nothing on the floor; the area is too small and it would only clutter the walking space.Helpful Reply

Nancy Watson on Oct 21, 2014I like the idea of a rogues gallery too! I have also seen slender 3 - 4 pipes hung horizontally and spaced to serve as a magazine rack.Helpful Reply

Jeri Niksich on Oct 21, 2014I'm afraid I would keep scaring myself when walking out of one of the doors & seeing a reflection of movement out of the corner of my eye if you hang a mirror there. I'd do upper shelving with small plants on them.Helpful Reply

Designs by BSB on Oct 22, 2014Some great ideas with frames and colors given. Id agree that mirrors in a hallway could be disturbing. Walking around a corner or leaving a room - you could get startled. Not natural placement for one IMO.Helpful Reply

PattyV on Oct 24, 2014I say you just get some stickon black stencils in maybe some long bambo stalks or simiar type simple pattern and place in on both walls so they look more unifiorm and tie into one another.Helpful Reply

Heidi Anne on Nov 16, 2014what about chalk board door panel on the closet door. That way you can guest can write messages, you can draw, endless with that.It would also add something to talk about in a hallway scenerio. Then for the space in the middle of the bathroom and bedroom i would do some kind of shadow box and framed photos or maybe old gears or anything vintage that catches your eye.Helpful Reply

Mary Byrne on Jan 31, 2015@Cupcakes&Crowbars I'm not to sure that you would want any furniture in that space. I think that it would make it feel very small and cramped. There are so many good suggestions on adding things to the wall. I think that might be the best for that space. You could ad a wall mural to the wall. Or an art gallery of your favorite things. What ever you decide to do, have fun and please post pictures when done.Helpful Reply

Paulette on Nov 09, 2016I like the idea of shallow shelves, all the way to the angled corner and cut to fit. I don't have enough space for pictures and memory items. Maybe a vacation wall? Too often those trinkets and pictures are in a drawer. Put some hooks under a shelf for hanging things. You can put as many shelves as you want, even different heights. Good Luck.Helpful Reply
