BUNKBED FORT

INSTALLING A SYSTEM TO TURN THE BOTTOM BUNK INTO A FORT

*Options I considered for this project:

This was the original plan

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

It only took about 15 minutes!!!

* Cost Comments:

THE KIT WAS 5.99 AT IKEA AND THE EYE-HOOK WAS 99c AT HOME DEPOT

*My motivation to do this project:

Our three year old is now in the same room with our 6 year old and we thought it would be fun to allow him to turn his new space into a fort anytime. The project was inspired by an item I saw in the Ikea catalog. ...»

*Project Steps:

1. PURCHASE WIRE SYSTEM FROM IKEA

2. INSTALL KIT UNDERNEATH TOP BUNK AT ONE END

3. SCREW IN BRACKET (NOT IN KIT) AT OPPOSITE END SO WIRE CAN TURN.

4. FEED WIRE THROUGH EYE HOOK

5. ATTACH OTHER END ON THE OTHER SIDE.

6. PUT HOODS ONTO WIRE AND USE NEEDLE NOSED PLYERS TO CRIMP THE HOOK WHERE IT HANGS OVER THE WIRE SO IT WON'T COME OFF...AND IT WILL!! BE SURE TO CLOSE IT JUST SO IT IS SECURE BUT WILL STILL SLIDE FREELY.

**IT SOUNDS COMPLICTED BUT IT'S NOT. THE PURPOSE IS TO BE ABLE TO SLIDE THE CURTAIN OPEN AND CLOSED.

Advice:

DO: PRE-DRILL PILOT HOLES

DO ; PUT THE LITTLE ALLEN WRENCH SOMEWHERE SO YOU CAN FIND IT AGAIN IF YOU NEED IT TO TIGHTEN THE WIRE OR TO REMOVE IT!! (NOTE TO SELF : IT'S IN MY JEWLREY BOX, LOL)

DO : BUY MORE THAN ONE. I PLAN TO USE ONE UNDER OUR DECK ON THE EAST SIDE USING A VERY LARGE CANVAS PAINTER'S DROP CLOTH THOUGH I MAY NEED TO PURCHASE HOOKS WITH BIGGER CLAMPS.

This is the link to the kit I used.

Materials:

DEKA WIRE KIT W/ CLIPS @ $6 - $0.00

EYE HOOK @ 99c - $0.00
