Candler Park backyard renovation
by
Inarc Studio - Interior Architecture
(IC: professional)
This project was and still is a overhaul of a backyard. It includes the addition of a screen porch and renovation of a mud room.
*Options I considered for this project:
We considered using stone pavers vs. concrete. We also considered a natural stone wall vs. landscape block. In the end we went with something more contemporary. The big consideration was what to use to clad the reworked mudroom. We choose to use stained wood slats that picked up on a more contemporary garden look.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
For the first time I had no unexpected events to speak of. Everything went according to plan. Maybe that was because I did a majority of the work my self! Or maybe its just luck.
* Cost Comments:
About $30psf for screen porch, reworked mud room, patio and sod.
*My motivation to do this project:
The lot slopes toward the house and water would run into the basement on days of heavy rain so we decided to resculpted the backyard. In the process making it much more kid friendly.
*Project Steps:
Demo most of the existing mud room. Then excavate the backyard. Shore up old foundation. Install landscape block wall and steps. Pour dyed concrete and build screen porch.
Advice:
Don't underestimate the time it takes to do the work yourself.
Do measure twice and cut once.
Do shop all the materials
