Boring Exterior Doors Are No More!

Victoria Larsen Stencils

We add color and design to our walls and ceilings inside of our homes, why ignore the exterior?
I couldn't stand them any more. The french entry doors on the deck. They were weathered and in need of slight repair to the wood and certainly a paint job. But being a wall stencil designer, I can't help but to want to add design as well.
I decided the plain door needed a bit of "umph". So I added our Raised Plaster Traditional Border Stencil to the bottom of each door. I used common joint compound as the raised medium.

Joint compound is fine for exterior plastered designs on doors, porches and even exterior planter boxes as long as you paint over the design with exterior paints (which seals the plaster based medium). No worries, mine held up through below zero temps, lots of snow and blazing, hot sun.
I painted the door and the design with a pretty blue/green paint with beige trim and then replaced the stencil over the raised design and added metallic gold paint to give it a bit of glimmer. What a transformation!
I loved it so much that I decided to give all of my entry doors the same elegant treatment.
Now, all of my doors were uniform in color and design and gave my home a cheery new look.
