I don't want to put my new laundry appliances in the basement

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Oct 21, 2014Look into putting the laundry in a larger bathroom or mudroom if you have one. I have 2 laundry areas- one in a 1/2 bath off the kitchen where I have an 11 year old top loader stacked machine and upstairs in a full bath where I have a small 2.2 cuft front loader. Going up and down the basement stinks! I did that in our first home together 18 years ago and I hated it. I would put the laundry where it is convenient for you. In our 2nd home we built I put the stacked Maytag front loader in the mudroom off the back door and staircase to go upstairs. with small kids it was the best because when they got muddy from playing outside they could take off the muddy clothes and run upstairs. LOL To add I like Mike Holmes but he is a man and men do not think like women! If you are the one doing the laundry, then it should be where you can do it with ease. Good luck and go with whatever idea you find the best! but on the 2nd floor would be easier since you sleep and dress up there.Helpful Reply

Linda on Oct 21, 2014Back porch, mud room, garage. Closest possible. Upstairs in a hall closet or repurpose a small bedroom for laundry/storage. Most of the laundry seems to come from the bedrooms.Helpful Reply

Lydia Hughes on Oct 22, 2014It depends upon the foundation of the area. Mine shook the entire house. Machines can be raised on pallets in the basement to avoid the water.Helpful Reply

Carolinedavis on Oct 22, 2014I have had mine in the basement, a laundry room on the main floor and upstairs. My fave was on the main floor. While it was nice upstairs with children, it did shake the whole house. Also I would forget to move wet things to the dryer because I was upstairs so little during the day. On the main floor I was in and out of the laundry room often or close enough to hear them go off. Having watched Mike a LOT (fix it, fix it, fix it!) I think his main concern is that if the washer floods it won't do as much damage in the basement as it would in other parts of the house. That said- having owned many homes in the last 33 years I have NEVER had a washer flood - leak a little, but never flood. In the end you should think through where it will work best for you- and of course the expense of where you want to put it. Let us know what you decide!Helpful Reply
