Whimsical kid's rooms...attic finish.

It all started with a kitchen island i was asked to build to match the existing white oak cabinetry in my client's home. they loved my attention to the details, so much so they invited me to look at the unfinished attic space. it was an ugly, creepy space that needed some vision. they asked for a couple of bedrooms for their two adopted children from Kazakhstan. "use your imagination" they said. uh oh..really? no problem, i have a good one. so, i went extreme makeover home edition on it! i went downstairs to ask the kids.."if you could have...." the girl wanted a princess cottage. the boy wanted "mack the truck" from the movie "cars". i took the 1000 sq.ft. space and did this. the bedrooms have no need for furniture, just toys and play space. the beds hold all their clothes in the lower drawers and two slide-out side closets built into the bed cabinets. there are mezzanine play areas above the beds accessible via a ladder inside the bed area. there are bookshelves, lights, and a special stuffed animal cabinet inside the beds. the children can control the lights with dimmers within their reach. they have a seperate "stage area" to ignite their own imaginations, and a "secret passage" behind the jack-and-jill bathroom thaat goes from room to room. i was also able to fit in a large walk in closet in a seperate play room big enough to house all their toys and games. the project took some thought, and imagination, but it sure was fun. all of this was just a design in my head, no drawing were ever done for this space.

princess cottage.
mack the truck. yeah, those are real tires and headlights.
inside the cottage is the bed, an access ladder leading to the upper play area, shelving, extra storage space, lights, and a whole lot of purple!
inside mack the truck is the bed, an access ladder leading to the upper play area , shelving, extra storage space, lights, and a whole lot of awesome!
pull out storage racks for everything that goes on a hanger. each bed cabinet houses two of these bad boys. it was fun to design this feature.
pull-outs under each bed. they are about four feet deep. enough space for everything that folds.
"secret passageway" shhhh!
Claiming the useful space between the framing.

Wow! This is unbelievable! How is the attic insulated/ventilated? How do they keep it cool in the summer?
