What about a climbing aster for fall, Aster carolinianus hardy from Zone 7 to 9. Perfect for a chain link fence, open brick wall, a tree, etc.

Douglas Hunt on Aug 25, 2011That aster (I cannot get used to Symphyotrichum) does well all the way into central Florida.

Erica Glasener on Aug 25, 2011Douglas, I have seen it listed as Ampelaster carolinianus (the botanists like to keep busy changing plant names) and read that this aster is native to the coast of the SE US.
