    Thanks. Our basement (unfinished) has areas that look like the bottom photo in your article. Are the drains at the same level as the footings? Ground level is about 4 ft above basement floor. I didn't think dogwood trees had roots that deep.
  • While dogwood tree roots typically don't go deeper than about 3.5 feet, they are far reaching (they spread out quite a bit) making them difficult to transplant so that could be what your husband was referring to. The exterior drainage should have been put in at the same level as the footing if it was done correctly.
