Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Aug 28, 2011Hi there Suzanne, I agree that it is most likely particle board for it to swell like that. What sort of top surface is that on there (the grey)? Sorry to say that the best fix for this is indeed to sand it down. You might have some luck with a couple soft and well placed taps with a hammer and then placing something heavy and flat on top of it for a while. That may flatten it back out, but probably will not make the mark itself disappear.Helpful Reply

Hudson Designs on Aug 28, 2011Hi Suzanne, Try using and Iron set for cotton and a thin dish towel over the area, this will press and dry it out. Next sand it with a block sander lightly to remove the ridge and apply some spot filler to the area. Now re-sand the top lightly and paint with a foam roller for a smooth finish.Helpful Reply

Suzanne S on Aug 28, 2011Thank you for all your advice. I actually ended up returning the table. Not worth the work for a cheap table that cannot withstand even a little condensation from a water glass. If that mark appeared from a tiny bit of moisture, image what it would be like with normal wear-and-tear.Helpful Reply

Imagery on Aug 29, 2011I would have done the same thing! I'd also suggest picking up some coasters for your new table, unless it's a glass top, moisture won't be it's friend in the long run! Glad you solved the issue...Helpful Reply

Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Aug 29, 2011Well, glad it turned out good for you in the end. And yes, coasters are your friend - at least according to my wife, personally I forget to put them down too often, just ask her. :)Helpful Reply
