Make "Baskets" Out of Cardboard Boxes

Necessity is the mother of invention, as my mom used to say. I couldn't find the right size baskets to fit on a couple of shelves in my daughter's room, so I covered a wine box and a shoe(boot)box with 4 ply jute twine. #OrganizedHome

Brilliant! I am always looking for baskets. I've thought of covering boxes with fabric but I love the jute!

I needed a shoe boxes so I used contact paper to cover the inside for damp and dirty shoes. The boxes are a year old and still look good. I did another box with nicer paper on the inside and outside for a food collection box and it's still fine too.

You could totally braid fabric scraps and do this too, then it'd be really custom.

Do you have a way to show how you made the canvas liners?

cardboard is recyclable....maybe do the same but use a plastic container which requires more energy to recycle/renew and then it would really be a "green" project!

I've covered boxes with woven paper twist or crepe paper streamers. Really like this idea too!

I have used boxes for years to make containers...The used laundry detergent boxes makes excellant magazine holders...Just cut out 1/2 of one side and cover the rest of the box with left over wall paper or self paper and fill with beloved magazines and put on shelf...

Just have to ad to your (great ideas for cardboard boxes), do you know what wonderful MULCH it makes. I think ,as a dig in the dirt person, it is a mortal sin to not recycle our trees. If you put down about 2in. of c.b.or newspapers, then cover it w/your expensive mulchso it looks pretty, you will be weed free & water free for @ least 2 years.

be careful to seal the edges of any corregated cardboard boxes ( use the same glue) because they are notorious for breeding areas for bugs. We are not allowed to use them in hospitals for that reason. Cute idea otherwise.

Ok, Im heading back to Goodwill. I found 10 yards of nice burlap for 19 bucks and there was a huge box with rolls of Jute I just walked by. I had my eye on the coolest solid oak bombay chest that someone had just dropped off. so I got that and left the jute where it sat! See ya!
