1970's Hall Closet Makeover

We've lived in our 1970's rancher for almost eight years and throughout those years my husband and I have painstakingly updated all the molding. The hall closet was one of the only spaces left that was still stuck in the 70's. Think builder paint (yes, this closet was never painted in 30+ years) and molding. I finally got fed up with the ugly storage system and overflowing boxes and gave the tiny space a complete overhaul. The best part? The entire project cost less than $40!
I started by clearing out the closet and starting from scratch.
I added board and batten to the lower half of the wall while the upper half got updated with fun teal and gold wallpaper.
For added storage I built 2 floating shelves out of scrap wood. First, installing the supports then adding the shelves.
Then it was time to organize and put the boxes back neatly where they belonged.
It's amazing how a little storage and paint can completely brighten and transform a space.

Our coat closet is just like yours & it drives me nuts. I love what you've done & gives me some inspiration & real desire to fix our nasty closet. Thank you very much!
