You need to use deck stain/paint made for this purpose. It soaks into the decking and gives it waterproof protection. I've seen them painted with exterior paint and it caused the screws and nails to rust under the paint. Treated lumber should be allowed to dry thoroughly before painting as well. I'd say a couple of weeks at least. Unless, you used Trex! Then it wouldn't matter. :)

Haven't had a new deck in years, but back in the day they recommended waiting a few weeks before staining so that it was dry enough to accept the stain. Also it shouldn't have rained just before staining. Perhaps @Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com or @KMS Woodworks could shed some light on this issue. I think I would trust their input most.

Left my pressure treated steps a season. Then used teak oil, but Danish would do. Don't think I'd paint.
  • Wooden deck, regular wood pine or white wood Paint soon as you can or weather permits... Pressure treated in humid areas more likely would be sold wet or humid.... Lumber yard you should have told them you were going to paint .... They would have sold you a ready to paint wood if not you need to let it dry completely before painting.... Now. When I went and did a project in California pressure treated was dry..... But it did had a dusty finish on wood so you need to wash it off let it dry them paint or Danish ..... I would stain versus paint paint would either flake off or peal off ...
