Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. on Aug 31, 2011Hi again Peggy, I recommend either calling in a chimney service, they can clean the chimney out and seal it for you. However, you can buy a chimney sweep broom. If you do it yourself though, be very careful on those heights. you want to make sure you put drop cloths down to catch the dust/ dirt that will come out. As far as sealing it, do you mean the weather sealing or sealing like a tile floor? But with 13 years of dust, I personally would call the chimney service.Helpful Reply

Hudson Designs on Aug 31, 2011It's a big job. 1st. Lay plastic drop cloths around the perimeter of the fireplace to protect the floor from cleaning solutions. 2nd. Brush the limestone with a whisk broom to loosen dirt and grit particles. Vacuum the front of the fireplace with a vacuum. 3rd. Fill a spray bottle with warm water and a couple drops of mild liquid dish soap. Mix the solution thoroughly. 4th. Spray the solution onto a one-by-one-foot section of the limestone. Scrub the limestone with a nonabrasive sponge to remove dirt, grime and residue. 5th. a microfiber cloth in the bucket of warm water. Wipe the damp cloth over the soapy limestone to rinse away the soap and grime. It's slow and hard work, and the water must be changed any times.Helpful Reply
