Shelving solutions in a small kitchen

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 03, 2014Think about open shelving that goes to the ceiling. A shelf all the way around the room can add more storage for platters, rarely used dishes, etc.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Nov 03, 2014Wanted a carpenter to make drawers on rollers like under-the-bed storage drawers to utilize the space wasted by toe kicks/ kick backs under the bottom cabinets He wouldn't/couldn't do it. These would be great for storing items like pizza pans, cookie sheets, and items like corn cob holders you use only occasionally, etc. - that take up so much storage room. You could also build up cabinets to the ceiling. However, I think this option closes in the room. You could use the space on top for seldom used items and make them look like part of your décor. I put a neat old oval Ware=ever roaster on top of mine with a big platter behind it and an extra pepper mill along side of it for a neat display..Helpful Reply

Debra Grieve on Nov 04, 2014Use every square inch by putting in shelves as stated above! You can check online for solutions to messy/inaccessible cabinet areas. Some of them you could make yourself out of wood if you're handy. You'd be surprised how much, just organizing cabinets makes more room! Don't forget to check with Ikea for great cabinet organizing ideas also!Helpful Reply

Patty on Nov 04, 2014If you have a utility room you can put shelving in there and use as a pantry or store dishes you don't use every day. You can go to thrift stores and buy shelving and cabinets cheap. I recently bought two antique kitchen cabinets for fifty dollars and I'm painting them now they will go in my mud room and that will give me more storage and a way to display some of my pottery and hammered aluminum. A small kitchen can create challenges, but think outside the box and you can come up with solutions. I know a girl that bought old metal lockers, painted them and put them in the garage right off the kitchen and she stores her canned goods and dishes cookie sheets and other baking pans she does't use often. Good luck I hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Blair Chris on Nov 04, 2014Full height larder cupboards the full length of only one wall but not the full 60cm deep. The 35cm or thereabouts hold a Hugh amount of stuff yet takes up little space. When you do the whole wall it looks like deep full sizes cupboards and all imaginable clutter is hidden.Helpful Reply

Letty on Nov 17, 2014I also have a small kitchen, and have had a small kitchen all my life. What I do is use the walls and doors of the cabinetry available. Now with command hooks, so much easier. For example:Helpful Reply

Letty on Nov 17, 2014For example: hook on bottom cabinet doors hold pot lids. The inside walls of the cabinet hold the pots. The center has the pans stacked using the wire things for it. The outside has my cutting boards with a curtain to hide them. The top cabinet has mugs hanging with plates stacked under them. The doors hold coffee stirrers, straws, coffee filters with command velcros for easy removal. Cooking utensils hand from the backsplash, under the top cabinet, and in the pantry. I also got shorter eating utensils so they fit my tiny drawer and Correll dishes because they are thin and light. Baking things are in stove storage drawer. Above the stove and sink are baggies, wraps, and paper towels. Most cleaning supplies that others keep under the sink are in the restroom and water heater closet, leaving space for small appliances. I would love to add an in-wall medicine cabinet for spices, but it's a rental so I can't. This is how my kitchen is right now. Hope something can help you.Helpful Reply
