how to make fall leaf mantel scarf from burlap

Do you love burlap? This is an oh-so easy way to make a fall leaf mantel scarf. Just trace your leaves, Mod Podge the edges to prevent fraying, and then paint the leaves with any colors you choose. Then I used a glue glun to adhere the leaves to a strip of burlap. Anyone else started on their Fall decorating?

This is very clever and pretty. I think it might get copied a lot! I'm going to give it a try. Like the way you colored the leaves and was wondering about them fraying so glad to know about the mod podge.

Thanks, Donna! I got the idea from Pinterest (of course). Someone made placemats out of the leaves. I dunno, maybe a runner this year? :) and, yes, Mod Podge works great to stop fraying and doesn't show a bit.

Colleen, thanks for posting this. I have some wonderful china I use for Thanksgiving and fall with great colors. I've needed a runner I could use w/this china that would suggest the season without competing with the china. This would work perfectly; so, I guess I'd better get to work on it!!

PS: I think I'll line the runner w/unbleached muslin and use "Unique Stitch" to attach the leaves. That way, I can wash it and use it again.

@ Beckie, try living in Southeast Texas where it's still in the high 90's and the lovebugs are so bad and thick, you can't put anything decor on your door or they will be all in it. Where is a cool front???

Donna, as soon as the A/C repair guy gets mine running today, I am closing these blasted windows and I can pretend it's fall already. The A/C went out Sat afternoon of a long weekend- they came out yesterday but had to get a part. We opened the windows Sat evening and left them open through 3 inches of rain since then. The house is so damp (from humidity, not raining in) that my hardwood floors are buckling in several spots and I got conked on the head yesterday by a heavy plaster ...»
plaque that turned loose from its backing and fell on me. It has been cooler here with all the clouds and rain but it's been a mixed blessing. Hope the house survives - just got a call and the A/C repairman is on his way. Yaaay.

@Ellen, glad he's on his way. It's close to a 100 degrees today. I know what you mean about wet floors. After two hurricanes, we went thru that and it's amazing, no matter how clean your home is, if there isn't A/C, everything feels damp, dirty and just blah. How did I survive without A/C growing up??? Just didn't know what I was missing I guess. When I was a kid, we use to go to Alabama and Georgia on vacations because my dad is from there, born in Alabama (Dothan) but his mother ...»
lived in Columbus, GA. at that time. No A/C in the car, middle of the summer. Gosh, I can't imagine now. Hope you have A/C soon!

Ellen H. I know what you're going through.......pergatory!! We had the same thing happen one year during 101 degree weather and were without A/C for a full week. I wanted to check into a hotel, but hubby was working in A/C so he didn't experience what the temps were like during the day. It was a LONG week. Hope they have your A/C up and running today!

EEEEEEWWWWW - now that can sure adversely affect an otherwise sunny disposition, right??? Heat is bad enough but when the humidity is so freakin high I just get plain grrrrrumpy!! LOL If there is an UP side, at least your're not without electricity so fans are a little better than nothing.

Yes, fans are better than nothing. And the freezer is making ice. I had a big bowl of ice cream after the repairman broke the news that we need a new compressor and they will call TOMORROW with estimates and options. So still no A/C. Sorry, Colleen, for using your post for this conversation. Fall is coming, fall is coming....(I'll just keep telling myself that).

Ellen, sorry to hear the news about the A/C. Forget the bowl, just eat the whole container of ice cream!

Ellen, why must it always be the compressor during heat like this? That's what our problem was years ago when the heat was so intense. Good luck!! Hope it doesn't take a week!
