A couple of weeks ago Jeanette (Homa Style) posted how to instantly age new wood and turn it into beautiful aged grey barn wood look. Well, I tried it and it worked!!

    2) Meanwhile, tea is drying and the vinegar & 0000 steel wool mixture was aging. This is w/ a coat of the vinegar.

    4) And this is how it turned out now that it's all dried. Now I just have to learn how to use my wood burning kit so I can make a really cool sign!!

Ah there are so many ideas for signs out there. Personally I think I'd woodburn a craggy old tree on it. No words necessary.

HT has been working fine this evening since I got back from a picnic dinner and playing in the park with our youngest grandson.

Thank you Jeanette. The fireplace mantle sounds fantastic - can't wait to see it!! And thank you again for this inspiration - that piece of wood was just begging for something to be done with it!!

Leida - thank you! So I've done tire planters, and made new wood old, next I'm on to fall burlap leaves!!

Ladena, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. We went thru that in '98 with my mom and I know it can be really tough emotionally & physically. Prayers for your Mom and YOU!!

Susan S, yes. I have seem them both. Your TIRE PLANTER was GREAT. Somebody else also did another small tire planter after you did yours. Have you seen it yet? Don't know exactly what burlap leaves are, but if you are making them I'm sure it will be something nice and to be watching out for.

I think HT has some of THE MOST WONDERFUL people I've ever come across and I'm so thankful that I've "met" all of you. We pull together and really sincerely care about one another. We pull each other up when we're down and just need a shoulder, we urge each other on and we're there when the going gets rough!! LOVE ALL OF YOU!!

You summed it up well, Susan. I'm fairly new to this site but have seen how close some of you are and how inviting and accepting the people of Hometalk are as a whole. We are all like-minded people with common interests and desires to just make our homes a little bit of Heaven here on earth. As the song says, "it's nice to go where everybody knows your name." @Ladena, I too will add you and your mom to my prayers and as Becky added, the medical team also. It's amazing what prayers can do. God's Peace and Blessings to you, Ladena.

Ladena So very sorry to hear about your mom, I'll definately add y'all to my prayer list also! I was talking to my stepmother about my dad tonight....it is so hard to see those you love and care about suffering....and harder still when you know they have to be in a place they don't want to be because you cannot give them adaquate care without help. I went through this with my MIL and FIL, but it never got easier... mostly because we were constantly second guessing ourselves....I'm going ...»
to pray for your peace of mind on this, because to this day my husband has regrets about the decisions he was forced to make, alone, on his father's behalf....but all we can do is the best we know how at the time, don't second guess yourself...god's got this!

And thank you all again. It is very hard. Mom will be coming to live with me and my husband soon. I just thank god I do have training. I worked in a nursing home for 18 years. I also thank god I have such a wonderful husband that it is ok not to have to work right now. I will not be on here for a while hospice has give me a 5 day break and it is time to go back to moms. And again thank you all for your kindness and prayers. And again you all made me cry:)

@ Ladena S, you're in my thoughts and prayers. I learned from going through this with my Dad to stay strong, respectful, and cherish each moment. Bless you.

You're welcome Karen. Glad you were able to find it. This was an old piece of wood I found on my husband's side of the garage. Then this idea came along and I thought it would be perfect for this piece of wood. Still don't know what I'm going to do with it now but eventually something will come along to inspire me!!

I'm sure I will Karen. I'm sort of debating whether to make a sign out of it or maybe do a wood burned design or to paint something on it. Sooooo many choices . . . . .LOL

Apple cider vinegar will make some pines more vibrant and others it will age. I have used this technique as well and love the results. It's important to not let it run because you will see those runs when it changes colors. I usually let it dry for a couple of days then the strong smell will dissipate. Nice work!
