Dresser Dilemma!

Z on Sep 05, 2012It seems someone else posted a project like this just a week or so ago. I think they said the dust covers were flimsy, but held up to their components. As for the photos, there is a way to edit photos added onto Hometalk. Not sure, but I bet there's a way to rotate using it. Yep, I just checked and it called "orientation".Helpful Reply

April on Sep 05, 2012Thanks for your reply, Becky! Ah, I see. These are warped in the back though, so my concern is that the components would be blocked and overheat. :( Ah, I'd have to wait until I'm on a PC before I can do that. There's no feature on a mobile. (iPad) I tried to rotate it before I sent it and it was still upside down. I'd post it now, but I have a feeling everybody will get a crick in their neck. LOL! I'll try and update e post later with a pic. :)Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 05, 2012You're welcome. How about you post it, I'll save it to my computer, turn it around and repost it right side up for you. Then you can delete the wrong side up one. Or I can start a new thread for with the right side up picture in the original posting for you by copy and pasting your original post so you can delete this thread.Helpful Reply

Miriam Illions on Sep 05, 2012April, you can post it, because we have a new photo editor that will allow you to rotate your photo if it shows up upside down :)Helpful Reply

April on Sep 06, 2012Becky - That's so sweet of you! But I don't want it to be of too much trouble. :) Miriam - Will the photo editor work even if it's mobile (for example: the iPad)?Helpful Reply

Yair Spolter on Sep 06, 2012Hi April, since ipads do not have flash you will not be able to post the photo directly or rotate it, but if you post it from a pc I can take care of rotating it for you.Helpful Reply

April on Sep 07, 2012@Becky - Thanks for your kind offer, I really appreciate it! I may have to take you up on it! @Miriam and Yair - Thanks for the collaborative help, and the information! I figured as much that it probably wouldn't have the capability, but I had to ask in case it was handled a different way and I missed something. Hopefully this post will help other iPad users who are wondering the same thing. @Woodbridge - Hmm, interesting idea. Originally I took the photo in landscape mode, so I'm not sure what Hometalk and the iPad consider upside down in that mode. I'll experiment and then give an update.Helpful Reply

April on Sep 07, 2012*Update* Okay, I've done an experiment and it seems that Woodbridge was right on target in guessing the problem. For some reason - in landscape mode - it wants you to hold the iPad with the camera to your left (and the button to your right.) I know I should know these things, but when I took the picture initially in the app - it looked the same no matter which side I took it from. Strange... As for the dresser...Upon further research - thanks to Hometalk! - we've figured out a way to get the job done. We were going about it all wrong. I shoudlve researched first, but our problem was more specific. I originally wanted it to fit in like the old warped boards, but realized that in order to get them in would require it to be too bendable - which of course would compromise the tensel strength too much. We've opted for birch cut to size - as it is a close match to the wood that is already in there. Will post pictures as soon as we move it to it's destination! :)Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 07, 2012Looking forward to seeing it. I have a MCM dresser I planned on turning into a flat screen TV ET center, but we decided on a different arrangement in our Gentleman's Parlor so the piece is now used as decor storage in the Ladies Parlor. I've yet to stain it though. Our daughter's wedding got in the way ;^) and then everything else did too. Someday.....Helpful Reply

April on Sep 07, 2012@Becky - Thanks! We're putting it in the room today. Oh, that sounds nice! And it sounds like you you have wonderful plans for it. Looking forward to seeing it when you do. Congratulations on your daughter getting married! Things must be crazy busy for you during this time. :)Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 07, 2012Oh great! Yes we're very busy catching up on things we didn't get done for planning the wedding, but then we also got a few things accomplished around the house that we'd been putting off. Like real stairs. LOL Yes we lived here over eight years with construction grade 2 x 10 stairs. Here's a picture of the dresser. I had to fill where it looked as though a puppy had chewed on a couple drawers so I'll be staining it a dark walnut to hide the filler.Helpful Reply

April on Sep 09, 2012Thanks! Were thinking of lining the bottom drawer now and were still experimenting on where to put it. I can imagine so. I'm glad to know you're getting many projects done. Wow! I know what you mean - there's been things we've been meaning to do for years and have just gotten around to them. :) Wow, that is one beautiful dresser! That would look great in dark walnut! And I like how you've arranged the pictures. :)Helpful Reply

April on Sep 09, 2012You're very welcome! :) Nah, not at all. It's good space planning. Sometimes it's good to just set things where you'd like them to go so you can get a better idea of the overall picture. Thanks! Then I can put the drawer back in and it'll look complete. :)Helpful Reply
