I love it!!! Wish more people would grab a paint brush and go for it! Love the technique of white washing to show the bits of brick. Very fresh looking. -
So, ASCP really does work on everything... -
I so love white painted brick! It's fantastic!!! -
Thanks To all of you! I love the look of painted brick too! -
It looks so fresh & new!! Love that change :) -
Thank you! I was wondering if paint would spruce mine up and then I read this! Off to the store I go! -
I am prepared to paint my '67 brick fireplace wall, I'm sure it'll make a big difference. Had already purchased my paint but I love your project...will try to learn more about chalk paint. -
Looks great, but, if you use your fireplace a lot, it a real pain to keep looking nice. Mine was the primary source of heat and I just couldn't keep the painted brick looking good. Still a great technique if you don't burn in it much. -
Should get a new efficent insert too. Chek out the links at www.iconhearthandhome.com -
WOW! Looks wonderful! -
Nice job. I have a white painted brick fireplace in my kitchen. I love the look. -
Thanks everyone! My parents don't use the fireplace at all anymore so that isn't an issue! I agree it would be really hard to keep it looking nice if it were used a lot! -
Use lots of candles...they have fire place candle stands now. It looks awesome & if you use scented candles it will make the room smell great too! -
Angela, that is a great idea! I will have to do the candle thing at Mom's for Christmas! -
Keep your eyes open at thrift stores...I have seen several there, but without a fireplace, I have just walked on by. -
Did the brick have any type of a glaze on it prior to painting - I want the same look but my brick has a little sheen to it. -
No this brick did not have a sheen to it. But, Leah, I think you can get close to the same look becasue you cover most of the brick and the sheen shouldn't come through the paint. I used the paint thinned way down - it was runny. This way you can cover some areas heavier by going over it more than once and do some areas lighter. You can cover more of the shiny brick this way and still get a very similar look! Good luck - and I want to see it if you go for it - let me know! -
That is perfect!! What a wonderful transformation!! -
I recently painted my fireplace brick wall. The brick were a rough finish and I used a concrete & masonry primer/sealer,(Loxon) from Sherwin Williams first and a satin, off-white 6105 Divine White as the final coat. Now I'm wondering what I can do to prevent the raised up hearth from getting so dirty when I use the fireplace again..any suggestions? -
tile just the hearth. tile is so much easier to keep clean than painted brick. -
I love this! Our fireplace is 42 years old dark brick...I hate it! I actually want to staple strips to which sheetrock can be attached and finished out. My only problem is the raised hearth has a ledge of about 1" overhang. I could attach thicker strips and then attach beadboard to that area (?). We have gas logs so it would not get that dirty. -
Jeanette I would give the paint a try before going to the work of drywall! Thin the chalk paint and one quart goes a LONG way! -
Can you use any chalk paint on any brick? How many coats did you have to do? -
Thanks Jill, our fireplace covers the entire wall at the end of the room. I was thinking about using a color besides white, but don't know what color to use. This room is on the back of the house, up high and lots of shade all day...never any direct sun. My room color is "Baked Scone" by Behr I think. I want to use a flat paint that has some level of protection so it can be wiped. -
did the same thing, cept mine was black stone. i love it!!!!!
