If you are in the shower and anyone who flushes the toilet (like a 83 year old with Alzheimer's) you get a hot shower. What can I do to stop this?

  • A plumber can install a scald free shower faucet. This device will regulate the temp based upon the water pressure as well as the delivered temps. Many shower faucets sold at the big box stores say temp regulated, but they are NOT scald free types. These better quality faucets will run around $250 and up plus installation. Be sure to understand what your getting. In the interim you need to check your water temp at the heater. Be sure to turn it down for safe use. Do not worry about dishwasher as it has its own built in heater to bring water up to a sanitary temp before it washes them.
