Fourth Time's the Charm

First try - beige paint with brown sponge paint (too splotchy)

Second try - sand (too bland)

Third try - sand with trellis stencil (thought I would like it but not so much on the whole wall)

Fourth try - sand with brown and metallic gold on split sponge roller and rag rolled to blend (I doubled the amount of recommended glaze this time).

Thanks Michele and Donna! This was far from my original vision, but the stencil just wasn't fitting in with the rest of the house. (Yes, if my husband is reading this, I am the "House Whisperer", not the "Impossible-to-please-paintbrush-wielding-wife) :)-

Well it's hard to tell without seeing the last sponged try, but it does seem prettier.

Beautiful! But I now have a problem! I want to paint my hutch in my dining room! It is a 1970s model (bought when we bought our house). I will post photo and see what comments I get...but I'm thinking chalk paint!

Thanks for your support everyone! JeanetteI think you should go for it. Chalk paint is my new best friend. It is so quick and easy. If I'd known about it back when I painted this hutch I would have saved myself weeks of work. Becky, they do seem almost the same compared side-to-side. I think that is my photography though. In person this final one is much less splotchy. It also has more richness and depth, probably because of the gold.

It could have been just me yesterday too since I'm guessing I posted that early in the morning just as I was coming down with the flu and my body was not working well at all. I was up until well after 4 am feeling yucky before "IT" hit.

Oh no, Becky. Sorry you are feeling bad. Hope it doesn't last too long. It's miserable when you can't sleep and feeling awful and nothing helps but time.

Thank you Donna. I'm better but the aches, from being so sick and laying in bed over 24 hours, now. I rarely get the stomach flu, but when it hits it hits big time. I even when boating today. Though all that bouncing around didn't help my aches at all I sure had fun watching our grandson's in the towable raft.

Taunnie, I thought the lattice was going to be the ticket, but then I realy liked the first sponge paint too....this does look "similar" but I Can really tell a difference in the warmth of the color....Way to stick with it until you achieved your goal! It looks Great!

Thank you Taunnie, but I'm back sick again. Son just got home with Syrup of Coca Cola. I'm hoping that helps. It did while I was pregnant a gazillion years ago.

The drug store here sells it in a bottle that looks like cough medicine and it's just labled "cola" syrup...my hubby swears by it when he is nauseated....but it's too sweet for me...just makes me feel worse...

Actually Sheila G, Coca Cola was originally developed for medicinal uses. What I got at Wally World wasn't the real thing I'm afraid. Not sure if that's why it didn't help me, the pharmacist said there was a difference in ingredients, or if I was just too darn sick. (I slept on the bathroom floor last night on a couple lounge chair cushions. Not too comfy but close to where I needed to be.) I'll have to ask our daughter if it helped with her nausea. She's pregnant. :^) ...»

Thank you Taunnie. I sure hope I feel better soon. I think last night was worse than Saturday was. I was in so much pain for so long I was begging God to let me throw up. I hate to throw up.

That's what I wound up Sharron, though I was sure the pharmacist said he could get both and I told him I wanted the real thing that's not what they had for me. It's very sweet. Basically sugar. It's fructose.

Becky, maybe your pregnant! I always say if I found that out at this stage of my life, I don't believe in abortion unless there's medical issues, but I would certainly consider killing myself! I'm joking of course. Least I think....... I've never heard of the Cola syrup either. Interesting. Do you think you may have food poisoning Becky?

ROFLMHO well I did start to wonder if I was having sympathy pains for our daughter how IS pregnant.

There's always that possibility Donna, but I thought about what I ate and I can't think of anything that could have caused it. I've had it before. Three times in one summer! That took my throwing up count in my whole life time, other than as an infant, from one to four. That's not counting ...»

when my appendix ruptured. I just don't throw up unless there's a really really a good/bad reason for it.

After the third time I went to see my doctor and she said right away, what's in your fridge that you eat about every three weeks or so? Miracle Whip on sandwiches was my first though and the first thing I tossed when I got home even though it had a month left on the best by date.

I've always been obsessive about cross contamination so I always, always, use different utensils for different condiments. Sometimes hubby makes our sandwiches and he'll use just one knife, wiping it between. He knows that drives me nuts, but because he thinks it just because I don't like his mustard in my miracle whip he figures if I don't see him do it, I won't mind. If I wanted mustard I'd put it on my own sandwich. LOL

I'm sure I must drive the people at Subway nuts. I have just meat and cheese on my sandwich so I won't let the one with the "messy gloves" from handling all that other gunk close my sandwich and wrap it. I ask, nicely ofcourse, if the first person will kindly wrap it, explaining I'm very sensitive to hot juices the other person might have on their hands. And that's true. I can't imagine why anyone would want to eat something that burns your mouth!

I guess I'm behind the times, what does ROFLMHO mean??? I'm thinking the LMHO means "laughing my head off", but know the other letters.

Well Becky I have to say it SOUNDS like food poisoning..... sickist I ever was in my life was discharged from the hospital after being spade, LOL, and getting food poisoning from takeout spaghetti.....I laid on the bathroom floor and whimpered, youngest was just a little thing and he was sick too...I couldn't even see about him...all I could do was ask my middle one to take him 7-up and so on....hubby had to physically carry me into the doc the next morning as I'd ripped the stitches... ...»
thought sure I was gonna die, and frankly didn't care...NEVER want to be that bad again...I'm so sorry you have been! I hope today is SO much better...

I just couldn't figure out the ROF. You were literally rolling on the floor the other night, but not with laughter! My husband had food poisoning and also spent the night on the floor. This was years ago. So like Sharron, when someone says they slept by the toilet, I relate it to food poisoning. Sounds like you are on the mend hopefully, Becky. Just take it easy and don't rush back to doing too much. ...»

Sharron, sounds like a miserable time. Nothing is worse than being sick and having little ones, especially if they are sick as well!

I'm beginning to think it was food poisoning. It's just weird that there were almost two days in between were I was feeling much better. Almost three days if you count my actually getting "sick". The first bout started around 4:20 Saturday morning the second around 12:45 Tuesday morning. I just talked to our daughter who's a lab tech and she said that kind of bacteria can lay dormant in your body for a days before it hits, so I have no clue what I could have ate. Certainly not the same ...»
thing both times though. I'd rather it be food poisoning because that way I won't be passing it on to any family members. Since our son was sick a few days before I was I'm trying to think if we ate anything the same before that, but I can't remember.

I know I'm wishing I would have turned on the air before I took my nap though. It got hot this afternoon. I'm roasting now. Oh that helped. Just realized my ceiling fan was on medium. It's not on high.
