Home Repair Tutor on Sep 13, 2012Ginny, I just installed a new American Standard Cadet 3 and it's fantastic. The flush is the quietest I've ever heard and you only need a wrench to get the job doneHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 14, 2012In the world of toilets, you really get what you pay for. But your going to find that the toilets with the higher seats will tend to be elongated type of bowl and not the short round type your looking for to save room. And those tend to be a bit more expensive then the shorter round type bowls that run around $200. While brand types are simply a matter of choice, when you get to the lower price ranges they are all about the same quality. It is when you get to the higher end models that the flush design really changes as does the parts to repair the toilet when they go bad.Helpful Reply

Ginny B on Sep 14, 2012I'm not sure what you mean when when you say the parts to repair the toilets. Do you mean they are expensive to replace too? I had a friend also tell us that you get what you pay for in a toilet so it looks like I need to be looking for a better quality and more expensive toilet. ThanksHelpful Reply

Ginny B on Sep 14, 2012Just saw an "Ariel Platimun Adonis that I really like. Believe it is made by Atlas. Does anyone know anything about that brand? If you pay more are they all pretty much a better toilet? This one is around $480.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 14, 2012A better quality toilet used parts that are not normally over the counter types you find in the home centers. They use special flush devices, flappers and all sorts of other goodies. The lower end toilets, and the older ones we find in our homes now are normally those in which parts are available over the counter. When you start getting into the better flush types which translate into more expensive types quite often then not the flush parts are not something that you can just go pick up at your local store. The result is those parts are a bit more expensive then the low end ones. But in your case, if you do go higher on your budget, The internal parts normally work for many years before there is if there is ever an issue.Helpful Reply

Hewitt Remodeling Services LLC on Sep 16, 2012The only comment I'd like to make is we sometimes get hung up on the initial cost of a better product than that of a less expensive one. Whether it is the better quality or a nicer finish we are paying more for, the difference in cost over the life of the product is generally miniscule. A $300 product lasting ten years is only 83 cents a month more than a $200 product. Pay for the better quality up-front..... it generally costs less in the long run.Helpful Reply

Ginny B on Sep 16, 2012Thanks Hewitt, That makes a lot of sense. After checking things out on our own too,we are leaning towards a better quality. You have kind of confirmed that with us.Helpful Reply
