Anna @Annabode on Nov 14, 2014Paint it white! It'll keep it from looking dated, and works with a country style.Helpful Reply

Linda on Nov 15, 2014I, too, have a 1976 rancher which is all paneling. I can't believe the '70's type of paneling is coming, or ever will come, back in style. It is usually cheap-looking. I have painted most of it, in whatever color I chose. I intend to paint the rest. One bathroom had been wallpapered, but it is bunchy in the corners, etc. I intend to remove it, but don't know what horror will be underneath. One bad thing is the type of paneling used in part of the kitchen and main bath. It is not the 'wood' kind, but had little '70's flowers on it (do I hear Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?) and had been painted over - it bubbled up in the bathroom (just in 2 or 3 spots) when I painted it.Helpful Reply

Deb Norling on Nov 15, 2014Paint! It completely transformed my house. Painted the kitchen a wonderful turquoise and painted the cabinets white. Brightened up that entire side of the open floor plan and really helps me cope with the grey winter days. Also painted the other rooms light softer colors. Just make sure to take time to paint all the grooves well.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 15, 2014If you are lucky there is plaster or sheetrock behind it in which case you could take it down. Otherwise painting it white or offwhite would really update it. Just make sure to clean and prep the walls before painting. good luckHelpful Reply

AvonelleRed on Nov 17, 2014I've personally always hated paneling, because it just rarely looks good, so I've always painted over it, but when I recently moved into a house built in 1960, I found that it has real wood paneling in the dining room and a part of the kitchen. Since it's real wood, it's really not as crappy looking as the cheap stuff most places have...so I think I will leave it alone except to clean it.Helpful Reply

Int2363025 on Feb 15, 2016Hurry don't look back, take it down before you can bat your eyes. I can't understand why people want to change things but, are lazy and want to do it the least bit of work involved.Helpful Reply
