How to winterize the plumbing in home

Adrianne C on Nov 16, 2014Wrap and keep water moving! I've used a drop light for a little heat. Just to keep it above freezing. If you plan on leaving the house, drain both hot and cold water lines and leave faucet open.Helpful Reply

Teri Mauerman Shehorn on Nov 17, 2014Heat wrap tape which can be purchased at a home improvement center. http://mobilehomepartsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=165245&Store_Code=MHPS&gdftrk=gdfV21960_a_7c335_a_7c7818_a_7c4150&gclid=Cj0KEQiA1qajBRC_6MO49cqDxbYBEiQAiCl5_NSaGBr8Wf0T4noEM6LZILWC8fVJud0whhBoIWVxdNUaArOf8P8HAQ Also keep cabinet doors open under sinks that are on outside walls. Letting the fauct have a quick "drip" can help keep the water moving in the pipe to prevent it from freezing but that will only help temporary as you can not let it drip all the time.Helpful Reply

Karen Cederquist on Nov 17, 2014Our house plumbing runs under the house. We had in all insulated wrapped , along with the heater ducts. Makes a big difference. We have one outdoor faucet that is connected to the household water. The faucet gets covered with styrofoam boogie as soon as the outside temps start to drop. The other 2 outdoor faucets are connecting to our sprinkler system. When the main valve is shut off, it opens a drain valve at the bottom of the pipe, then I turn the faucets on just enough that any residual water will drop out. Haven't had a freezing problem in 21 years!Helpful Reply
