Mold and My Seagrass Rug
by

Is mold growing in your seagrass rug? I was shocked when we discovered mold in our two 9 x 12 rugs that are just over a year old.
We were doing everything right. The rugs are in our bright, sunny great room. We keep the house's humidity level at 42 percent year round; we don't have pets or kids who would have soiled the rugs, and we don't wear our outside shoes indoors.
We were shocked to discover that it is all over both rugs.
We researched the problem and discovered that mold can and does grow on seagrass rugs. We tried to clean it with a solution of 1 part bleach to 6 parts water, but the mold, which is dry and crusty, didn't budge. Lucky for us, the store where we bought them is going to replace them. Read about the precautions we are going to take first on our blog: http://the2seasons.com/2014/11/16/mold-seagrass-rugs/

Carole on Nov 17, 2014We have one and when it was delivered it seemed to be full of sand. No mould though that I can tell and that is despite our Labrador using it as a place to take carrots and bones to chew (we have tiled floors and the rug stops them from getting away from her on the slippery surface).
