Gas fireplace lighter

We have tried many times even following directions on each move. The gas is turned on at the tank, and there is plenty of gas, how can we start our gas fireplace?

If you're following the directions that are usually posted on the unit, there may be an obstruction or problem with it. I'd call a gas person to come and take a look.
