Ha! You must have been eavesdropping this weekend. I wash our pillows when we rotate the mattress and was just talking about it because the time is coming up soon. Good health tip that isn't that hard to do. -
i worked at a cleaners for twenty years we even cleaned feather pillow;s -
So is this the same for feather pillows? -
Can you put feather pillows in the washer? I've only done the dryer with softener sheets. -
I have several feather pillowsI put them in the dryer, can I wash them also without them knotting up? -
Something my mom taught me, that alot of people don't do! I do this every 3 months or so..or I buy new! -
For your feather pillows, check the labels! Most cannot be machine washed, but there are a few brands that can. Your labels will give you detailed instructions. -
BrightNest, I have the elcheepo pillows so I can do this without a problem. Thank you for a reminder as it is easy to forget pillows. -
Don't add fabric softener in the wash or fabric softener sheets in the dryer when cleaning down feather pillows. It causes the down feathers to clump. Same advice when washing and drying a feather comforter. -
I wash feathers all the time. Just need to put a tennis shoe or dryer balls in the dryer to fluff them when they are drying. It takes awhile, so after they get dry, I just use the fluff (no heat) cycle. -
My mother used to take pillows to the cleaners every 4 -5 months. It seemed like they came out a lot better that way. I usually wash mine at home, but I have had a couple come apart. Not fun. lol. (No I didnt read the label first) -
what about those foam pillows....???? As far as I can tell...you can only wash their outer pillow covers.... -
Laurie Gross, I have a pillow with the label from Sealy. Label shows 100% cotton cover with Flexiloft fibers (now what is that?) I do wash & machine dry them since the label says I can do so. They come out very clean and fluffy. -
says when you pay 60 or 70 for a high density foam pillow..It is a little pricey to buy new every three or four months..I toss them in the dryer... I have covers on mine..so I just take the covers off and dry them to kill any dust mites that might be in them. I wash the covers and put them back on all fresh and clean! -
I put my oam pillows in the freezer to kill the little varments in there . then put them in the dryer to de-lint and de varment them. Of course you can wash the covers. -
can't wash my pillow...water pillow with plastic bladder. Washed the first one i bought & it ruined the corners of the plastic...I put a cover on it, 2 pillow cases & spray with antibacterial mist every week when changing the sheets.... i also have a professional steamer that i use on it that freshens it right up. The washer is too hard on the bladder & definately couldn't put the plastic in the dryer for the same reason. But it's the best pillow for my neck...I purchase it from my ...» -
Pillows are so cheap - I buy them for about $4-5 at curtain stores or Home goods about every 3 months. -
i agree with Andrea, keep for awhile, then toss them. Or wash them once and dry . when i dry them(i have washed pillows ) I take them out every now and then ,and bounce them from the end cornors on my knee.then put them back in till dry.. better wash ,dry, put a old pillow case on it and give it to your pet. then when it gets dirty, toss it and repeat...... -
I wash my down pillows and comforters in a big front loader at the laundramat. I had a laundramat owner who had just opened tell me that the company he bought his machines from told him that you add 3x's the amount of liquid fabric softener to the rinse and they dry faster. I've been doing that for 5 years and they dry in 1/3 the time with no clumping or mess. No need to use tennis balls or shoes or whatever. -
I've been afraid to wash an old feather pillow that I found at my parent's house after they were both gone :( It hasn't been used much but still has a musty odor. Do you think it would make it thru the washer/dryer? -
My mother is 82 yrs old and of course still uses her feather pillows!! Fall and spring, she opens her pillows, takes the feathers out and washes the blue stripe ticking...and hangs the cases outside to dry! Good luck with yours! -
I find golf balls works better a little bit noiser, but it gets the job done. This works great for comforters also.
