Make your own rustic wall ruler

Need to add a little rustic to your home full of crayons and stuffed animals? Throw away those paper wall rulers and make your own! I found this great old barn door at the landfill and screamed with delight when I laid eyes on it. I took just one of the pieces of wood, sanded it down, used permanent marker to make all the lines and numbers, sealed it with a wax, and hung that bad boy on the wall. We mark the kid's height right on it. I love functional and beautiful decor. :)

What a great idea! My mom did this with all the kids directly on the wall. Now she has to paint around it.... this is such a better idea its removable for painting. I just saved it so I can do one for my grand babies.

I know! Because of the weight, I used screws and washers directly into the wall, but it is simple to move. Of course you can use any width wood you like and finish it with stain or with paint. Maybe a holiday gift for Mom? :)

It would make great gifts. Mom does not want to transfer the marks off the wall, we have talked to her about it. She says she will just cut the wall out, if she ever moves. But this has gotten the thought process going.
