Downy Mildew on Impatience

Does anyone know if this Downy Mildew that attacked pretty much all Impatience in Florida is dead now or do we have to endure another year of it this year? I bought 4 flats yesterday and the gardener said that its a catch 22 . Hopefully its not going to happen this year
This was last year and then after they looked so beautiful the flowers all fell then the leaves and then it just looked like sticks

  • Last year industry experts altered their opinions regarding how long the downy mildew plaguing impatiens lasts in the soil. From 3-5 years, they now say it can hang on for 5-7 years. Worse yet, it can be spread by the wind and by water splashing on infected soils. This year in Metro Atlanta, very few suppliers grew or sold impatiens. One well known nursery had a disclaimer next to their impatiens to warn customers. Yet, they still offered them for sale. The last I heard was to simply not plant them. I love this plant and truly missed seeing these beautiful blooms. The New Guinea Impatiens so far are not showing signs of being susceptible to it.

Try sprinkling corn meal gluten on the soil and plant. I have read this is excellent for mildew on plants and in the soil.
