You can use whatever you'd like! Perhaps a table runner on the top would be nice.

Absolutely! You can add legs if it is too short. You can shorten it if it's too tall. The possibilities are endless!

I've found that with a nice coat of paint or stain, a dresser can be an integral part of any room, whether buffet or simply for storage. I still have the dresser that my parents gave me as a child that I have used in my great room to store extra fabric, wrappings, and such!

You can use what you want to use, I do believe I have seen some with a couple drawers made into cupboards.
