We recently finished a little makeover on our breakfast area to make it feel more French Country.

The planter that I painted and added a French image to has become our Fall centerpiece.

View from the kitchen. Since we went from a counter height table to a lower one, we also had the chandelier lowered.

We also added beadboard to the dry bar backsplash.

Thank you, Annette! I painted them with Annie Sloane's Old White, followed by Annie Sloane's Chateaux Grey ... then distressed them a bit and added a layer of her clear wax.

Wow, I would have never guessed Chateaux Grey...they have a neutral green or khaki look. I am considering using Annie Sloan chalk paint. It is tricky to work with? I want to paint my 80's honey oak kitchen cabinets.

You've done an excellent job giving your kitchen more personality. I really like how great the counter tops look with your painted cabinets. I also thought they looked greenish in your photo but lovely nonetheless You've chosen great accessories, too.

I know, Annette! I truly see more green/not grey in the Chateaux "Grey!" You will LOVE chalk paint. It's truly easy to work with and such fabulous colors to choose from ... it would work wonderfully on your cabinets, too!

I think I am going to go for it...I have the dreaded honey oak 80's style cabinets. With chalk paint, do I have to sand first?

That's great, Annette ... you won't be disappointed. And, no, you don't have to sand first when using chalk paint. (Probably just a bit of TSP on your cabinets to get any grease off first.)
