Re-upholster chairs by using re-purposed belts

1. cut away broken rush/reed seat

2. install belts, buckling on the underside of the chair, weaving as you go

3. sit

Easy, right?! See the details on my blog!

This is so cool - I just knew there had to be a use for old belts. Got any idea for old ties? LOL

@Ellen H, yes! neckties make great valances and tablerunners and small table cloths! PLUS, on my blog, you can see the rug in my master bedroom made of neckties! The pieces of ties were individually stuffed and sewn onto a backing. It's a neat rug! I'll post it...

This is so neat--much easier than caning or weaving!

OK, Very cool look, but I have the same question here. Where did you get all the belts? I own exactly one belt, and I need it to hold up my pants.

Steve G, I don't know where WhatAmberLoves gets her belts but I do know you are not a 50 + year-old woman, cuz we have lots of belts, most of which fit smaller waistlines than we have now and are just waiting to be useful again.

Ellen, you're on to me. What gave away the fact that I am not a 50+ year-old woman? Thanks for the response. That makes sense. I also have an unusually small and old clothing collection. About the only clothes I have acquired in the past five years are shirts and jerseys from bike rides and events, and a couple of pairs of thrift store shorts and jeans.

I buy the chairs at thrift stores/garage sales and the belts were mostly mine, a few more i got at goodwill for $2/ea. The buckles are on the underside, so you're not sitting on them. They're actually really comfortable; the belt leather is so thick, that it doesn't stretch.

Have a gorgeous chaise lounge on my patio that I scored for a $1 at a yard sale. The webbing under the cushion was shot, and would have been a pain to replace (both pain in boiling/stretching and pain in the neck to get as could only find it about 150 miles away). My son fixed it with belts.
