I just finished up a large custom order for a customer and what a change! The pieces started out that typical honey oak color that most furniture in the 90's was. The pieces were solid, and worth trying to recreate. The customer decided a two tone look with the tops stained and body painted antique white would be great. The process I use is very basic, and probably a little old school. I always sand, prime, paint and seal all my pieces. I am not a big chalk painter, but that is just my preference, there are beautifully chalk painted pieces! Zinsser cover stain is my primer of choice, which I spray, and these pieces got painted with General Finishes Antique White milk paint, followed by some distressing and Van Dyke brown glaze. The tops are stained with General finishes gel stain in Java/Antique walnut. I sealed everything up with their high performance poly in satin (have I mentioned I love their products?? :). I would say these pieces now have the character they deserve!!
