After looking at it for awhile I decided it needed some pfhzazz! So, down it came and I taped off stripes and painted them a barn red.
  • Like Clip
Then I decided it STILL needed something else. THAT'S IT - I'll add a black stripe on each side of the red stripe.

Heat setting the paint. Don't forget to do this step. It keeps the paint from fading when it's washed!!

You get that sensation of your heart beating faster while you walk to the entrance from the parking lot and as you see people carrying out large bags of stuff!

Donna C, I'm wondering if what you saw wasn't burlap. Was it on a tub/roll or a bolt? I made some window panels for a client once our of fabric that had the look of burlap but was very soft. SheilaG, Plum Doodles yep, you do have to buy a whole bolt, but so many are making window panels that you'd need quite a bit of yardage. If you just wanted to do a valance or ...»
pillows, you're right, it wouldn't be worth it. Leida R I'm adding some photos I took of Hob Lob for friends that didn't have one and wondered what they were all about. I'm sure you'll enjoy these more than the ones on their website. Though I've not looked at there for awhile, last I looked mine were better. :^D Since I live in the country most places I go to are close to twenty miles away or further. Other than Wally World anyway. Susan S You timer story reminded me of my Mom. She couldn't pass a group of music boxes with out winding them all up. Used to drive me crazy, but I learned to enjoy the fun as I aged. My Daughter and I now do it when we're together as a memorial to my Mom her Grammy. ♥ You created an awesome memory for your darling Granddaughter. I think you ought to make a habit of that. I'll have to try that sometime. LOL Thanks for the idea.

Becky, what store is that? It looks like Hobby Lobby and Hancocks rolled into one!

Our Hobby Lobby sure doesn't have Bolts of fabric like that! A few of the cottons...but not drapery bolts!

It's all Hobby Lobby Sharron. It's the biggest one in the area. They joined two stores today by wide hallways so it's the size of two stores. Sad thing is they are going to have to move and I fear it's won't be as large. That wasn't even all of their fabric on tubes. They bought different racks since I took these pictures.

Well for now anyway. I fear they size will shrink immensely when they get a new building.

Leida, the Hobby Lobby closest to us in up in Port Richey; another is in Lakeland. Recently, while shopping for trim for throw pillows, having exhausted resources here in Tampa, I ventured out to Port Richey to see if Hobby Lobby had something I could use. They did not have what I needed, but it gave me an opportunity to see what they carried. I was impressed by their floral dept; they had some superior quality artificial stems not to be found in Michael's or JoAnn's. I could have ...»
spent a fortune on creating a new arrangement, but chose to stay on topic! I have not seen any coupons for Hobby Lobby in our local paper, but we are some distance from them! In most cases, Hobby Lobby's don't seem to locate a store within a city that already has a JoAnn's and/or Michael's. If they stick to that pattern, then more than likely, we won't see one here in Tampa.

Becky H we have Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn's all within a block of each other, so there's still hope for you to get one! Other Becky (y'all are confusing me, someone needs to change their name- ha!)- our HL doesn't have nearly that much fabric, maybe only a dozen or so rolls of decor fabric. Now I'm feeling deprived! :)

Becky H., as Sheila wrote, our HobLob, Michael's and JoAnn's are all within walking distance of each other. So maybe you will get one. We have a huge HobLob, with a big fabric dept. If you go online, you can print their coupons or if you have a smart phone, show the coupon to them at checkout.

We, well Omaha which I live just 12 miles from the city limits of, have only one very large JoAnne's but there's also Hancock Fabrics (3 in Omaha 1 across the river in CB, IA), Michael's (3 in Omaha) a local store Mangelsen's (1 larger store w/ fabric/crafts/scrapbook/party goods etc in Omaha) and then there's 4 HobLob in Omaha and 1 in CB, IA. Not to mention the Walmart's that are now carrying fabrics and crafts again. Okay I'll tell you....We have 8 WMs in the greater Omaha area, 1 in ...»
CB, 1 in Fremont (just 20 minutes from us) and one in our little town of Blair. Becky H check out HobLobs site and see if they have plans to come to your area. If not write them. They started out in Oklahoma by the Green family (if I'm remember their name correctly which just popped into my head when typing) who also own a chain of Christian book stores called..... OH Mardel's! I think. Anyway they're a pretty good company, but sadly not all their management think the way the owners do about how they treat others.

Well, son of a gun Becky ! You seem to have a lot we don't have here. For instance, the WM's here have drastically reduced the size of their fabric dept.!! I've shopped WM for lawn and landscape supplies for years, as well as some of the grooming care items. They used to have a much larger fabric dept., but at that time I wasn't sewing enough to patronize that dept. One of my favorite shops to visit, come creative projects, ...»
is Val's Basket Whse. As a rule, they've had supplies for all sorts of creative endeavors at a lower price than most. However, the last couple of times I went in, I was disappointed. For sure I always bought my plant pots there, as their prices were another 30% - 40% lower than any other establishment. I will go online to see if there's any info. on a Hobby Lobby planned for Tampa anytime soon.

Becky funny you mentioned the original HL in Oklahoma City- we lived in OK years ago and I visited that store many times, long before it became a chain. They had converted a strip mall into one big store. More crafts and floral back then, not much home decor stuff.

Yeah, I'm surprised we have so many of each of the stores, but strange we only have one JoAnne's anymore. We used to have three. I rarely go there because I don't go to that part of Omaha too often. Becky H Awhile ago a new guy took over organization of WMs and he screwed up big time. He not only removed most fabric stores, but many other items. He's now gone and many of the items including fabrics are coming back, but not all ...»
store managers are wanting to give up the space so it's been a struggle getting them back in some stores. One of the Omaha stores only carries precut fabric as shown in the picture below. SheilaG, Plum Doodles I remember when Hob Lob was more a fabric, craft and floral store. The home decor came when the kids started having more to do with the stores. They now belong to two of the boys so some stores are really Hob Lob and some are Hobby Lobby for their tax purposes.

Wow, Becky you're a regular store encyclopedia! That's pretty interesting about HL being changed by the kids- I don't mind the switch to more home decor, but I am disappointed that WM stopped carrying very much fabric.

Sheila, I always carry my camera and since I've belonged to other decor groups we're always sharing about what stores are doing what. I took the HobLob pix when friends in Cali were getting their first store and the WM fabric when all the fiasco was going on about their taking fabric out of their stores a few years ago. This was one of the stores that didn't want to staff the department for customer service but still wanted to keep fabrics and this is what they got. There were two stores ...»
in our area that their management refused to let them remove by the yard goods from their stores though.
