Hi there. The only thing I know that works for really bad smells ( like rotten meat in an old freezer) is activated charcoal. It was our freezer and the odour was gone. It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember leaving it in the closed feezer about a week and I had a bag about the size of 10 lbs. of potatoes. You wouldn't need that much and you just can't get it anywhere. I would look it up in your town and see if you can get it. I got mine from a chemical co. I'd put all your things in a big plastic bag, with the charcoal and seal it up and check every few days. Other than that, leaving them outside for a month or so is the only other way I know and we know you can't do that. Good luck, hope I helped.

Good tips. I'm curious as to how they got the smell in the first place. Once the smell is out, maybe wrap in plastic if storing with woollen items or such?

I put a few moth ball in each of the totes. We had a bad problem with mice cause I live in the country where there are a lot of crops, corn, soy beans, peanuts etc and they tend to run to the house when the crops are picked. I have like towels, placemats, cloth napkins, stuffed figurines that run off of batteries. They all have the moth ball smell in them and I was just curious if anyone could help me in removing the odor from my items
