For cat lovers who clean the litter box

Ok, for those of you who have cats and use a litter box...I'm sure it's the first thing you think about in the morning, " I can't wait to clean the litter box today", ....NOT!! So, we did some investagating for a new way to clean without getting crap every where...There is a new product on the market, that is ALREADY a "god send"...no more digging in....well,....you know...it called" Omega self cleaning litter box". Well worth $35.00!!! It's concept is very simple, and easy to use..I give it 2 thumbs up!!!

I have always wondered why the cat pees in the corners of the box. lol And in the middle of the night, she paws, for what seems like eternity, at the plastic liner.

I've seen these before, but they were more expensive. My other worry is are they big enough for my kitties. Three are very big kitties. I'll have to check the local pet stores and see if they have them. It would be worth a try. I hate scooping poop. THANKS David!

Thanks David. At the age of two my cats weighted in at 8, 14, 16 and 18 pounds. The two largest are Mainecoone and are said to not be fully grown until around the age of three. I'll have to remember to ask at their next Vet check up what they weigh now...... I really need to look into getting one of these litter boxes to see if they'll use them. I checked and both the local big box pet stores carry them for just under $30.00 on their web sites. I'll have to call and see if they have them ...»
in store to save on shipping. If it works then we'll go with two or three more. They say to have one more litter box than you have cats, but I've not done that yet. We use three concrete mixing tubs lined in a row under the basement stairs.

    • We have a woodwork shop in our basement which posed a problem with 4 cats getting themselves covered in saw dust and well just into stuff. We added stair risers (to all but one step near the bottom) and a screen door at either end.

Becky, I have a Maine Coon (and a few 'regular' kitties) as well, and we have to have a huge box for him. I like your placement of your boxes. David, thanks for sharing the Omega box product. I will certainly look into it.

Thank you Cindy. Aren't Mainecoone cats wonderful? They have so many traits that are dog like that I've often thought of taking the "little" lady for walks on a leash.

Better than that is the CatGenie. Expensive outlay, but not expensive after that. No carrying litter, no being near germs so cancer patients, pregnant women and anyone can own a cat and not do "litter duty". I bought one after breaking my arm, and then bought a new one this year when the processer went out - and my cat is over 14 years old.

The Cat Genie looks way to small for my large cats. All but one wouldn't be able to get more then their hineys in there. Neat idea though it takes a long to time to clean it. I think my cats would give up and pooh on the floor beside it. Just sayin'.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIhxAptRF5o&feature=related

The new litter box may be too small for my daughters cats. What are the measurements ?

I don't like the idea of that kind of box because you are getting the litter all over the insides of the litter box when you turn it. I have cat that can't stand a dirty box and will refuse to use it if he doesn't think it's clean enough. Oh and he refuses to put his butt down when he goes, so I am not able to use a regular littler boxes either. None of them are high enough so that he isn't able to go over the sides and get it all over the floor. I came up with the idea to use a over ...»
sized storage bin for my litter box and finally there is no mess.

depending on the litter you buy, results will vary....i have had no problem with "leftovers" on the inside do to turning it....i use tidy cat litter( clumping).

I've had 4 cats and they all took to the CatGenie with no problem. I haven't carried litter or cleaned a litterbox in four years. Being older and disabled this is a plus for me. It may look smaller since it is round rather than rectangular. I had one years ago that you turned over and the used litter would drop into a drawer you pulled out to empty. Didn't like that one myself, plus still had to carry litter, clean the box and disinfect it. But each to their own. I love th CatGenie.

ok,,i just looked at the catgenie, and here's my problem with that...i can see my cats not using it because it not private. next..i see litter particals EVERYWHERE!! and really, i have to hook it up to toilet to drain..i dont have room for that huge thing in my 8x8 bathroom....and way too much, plus cost of refills. i guess if you factor how much litter you would buy, and your desire to clean the box...it may be worth it!!

Mine is connected to the laundry drain in the laundry closet, door closed except on one side opened just enough to let the cat enter. Completely private and out of sight. No room in my small bathroom, and I wouldn't want it there in the open anyway. The cost of refills is actually small. I get 240 "flushes" from one refill, and you only add a cup of litter every few weeks to replace the small amount that might stick to the feces. The rest is sanitized, rinsed, and dried after each ...»
"flush". I have mine to flush after each cat use. The sanitizer used is the same used at vet's office. I haven't carried out used litter, or had to clean a box in years. I actually spend less then when I bought litter. The large expense is the CatGenie itself. With health issues, I couldn't take care of a cat, carry the litter, and keep the box clean if I didn't have the CatGenie - plus there is never any odor from a used litter box.

If we had a drain under the basement stairs I may have tried the Genie. I wouldn't want it hooked up in a bathroom, but using another drain would have been awesome. We do have the plumbing for a bathroom in the basement, but it's capped right now. I may have to think about that for the future when I can't get up and down stairs so easily. Thanks for the extra info Martha G
