Wall Decorating Delima

Leslie D on Sep 26, 2012I would go even bigger with the art, and center it over the table area. Then, maybe an applied wall graphic on the other side of the staircase...perhaps something like this (except with the graphic leaning the other direction). Painting that one wall a darker color, that ties in with your decor may also help the entire wall appear to be an accent and won't appear to be such a big canvas. Everything right now is a shade of beige/brown in that area.Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 26, 2012I'm with Leslie. I too was going to suggest painting the wall an accent color and to center the art over the dining table. It would help to see a photo of the whole area for more ideas. What's on the other side of the stairway?Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Sep 27, 2012Heidi, I had one wall in our bedroom that was difficult find an item. I started looking at metal wall sculptures. Found a few that were perfect with some of the colour tones in our room. They were inexpensive and easy to hang. Have one of a New York cityscape in another bedroom which has taken the place of a headboard. Home Sense usually has an array of these and ore fairly economical. I have even spray painted others to go with the decor.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Sep 27, 2012I have a couple of paintings from an artist named Destiny Womack. Mine are about 2' by 3' but she also makes some bigger, and she does multiple frame versions. I find her prices very reasonable for "original art" http://www.etsy.com/listing/95138410/6pc-abstract-canvas-art-paintings-60x32Helpful Reply

Leslie D on Sep 27, 2012Multiple-frame paintings are a great way to go. I did these very inexpensively and easliy for my living room. I just used several 10" x 10" canvases (very cheap size to buy), coated them with quick drying drywall spackle, made divots, lines, circles, etc. in the spackle to give texture, and then waited on them to dry and painted away with colors to match my decor. I even glued a few loose pieces of turquoise on them. Looking at any one of them individually, I wouldn't have used, but as a grouping, I think they came out great.Helpful Reply

Cyndie S on Nov 08, 2014Looks like there's an opening right next to the table, so centering a triple picture above the table would be off scale and leave a huge expanse of empty wall. I love a pretty mirror reflecting a table in a dining area. I'd put an uplight floor lamp between the mirror and the stairwell. Further to the right, put your triple picture centering it between the stair opening and the adjacent wall or room to the right side of the stair.Helpful Reply

Lori on Nov 08, 2014What about a long art shelf starting about two feet in and going all the way across to two feet from the other wall, then just stand nice big pieces of art in varying heights across the whole wall.Helpful Reply
