Shari on Nov 30, 2014What is it you will be painting? I think that will make a difference in what type of prep work, paint and finishing you will need to do. I hate sanding--not because I have asthma but because I'm lazy and I find sanding tedious. When I paint furniture with regular latex interior paint (my favorite paint for painting furniture), I wipe the piece down with a liquid sandpaper/deglosser product to avoid the sanding step. I've also used Annie Sloan chalk paint and Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint. I am not a diehard fan of either one like so many people seem to be but of the two, I prefer MMS milk paint. My issue with the milk paint though is I haven't found way to finish it off that is acceptable to me. I hate waxing (almost more than sanding) and although the hemp oil Miss Mustard Seed sells is quick and easy to apply, it doesn't last. I find it ends up soaking into the wood and has to be reapplied every few months to refresh/renew the sheen. What a pain! I haven't tried the Farmhouse paint but I'm highly suspicious of any company that claims their paint covers in one coat. I've done a LOT of painting in my years and I've never found any paint that covers in one coat--at least not to my satisfaction. Maybe if you don't mind it looking splotchy like a kindergartener painted it but I doubt one coat is going to do it if you want a finer, smooth and even finish.Helpful Reply
