Hanger double duty

I saw this in Good Housekeeping last night so I took a picture for you with my own too-round hangers to give you the idea. It is a simple soda can tab hung over one hanger giving you double room in your closet.

  • I love the giant poppies but they sprawl so wide they can smother the plants around them.
  • Look for a strong wooden or metal table base.
  • It's best to place the support around the young plant but this was a sprawling emergency so I added it later.

Turn An Old Table Into A Plant Support

Some of my favourite plants get big, beautiful, flowering heads but they also sprawl all over the garden. I use the bases from old glass-top tables to support them. These tables tend to ...»
end up in the garbage because it's too expensive to replace the glass if it breaks. Providing support on all sides, they're perfect for not-too-tall plants like these giant poppies.

I have many more inexpensive home and garden ideas on my blog. If you come visit please say hi!

How to Make a Birdbath from a Large Salad Plate

When I go tag saling I keep my eyes open for anything unusual that can be used in the garden so when I saw this large salad bowl/plate I bought it. I knew I wanted to use it as an unusual ...»
birdbath. It was $3. and I also bought some pretty green glass stones at a tag sale to put in the plate. I think it looks good in the garden, don't you?

Thanks for looking. Linda

  • Here are some impatiens planted in a metal minnow bucket and the bucket insert. Holes were punched in the bottoms for drainage.
  • I had my husband add a rubber pad to the top rung and side posts to protect the siding. He also put a large nail in two of the rungs to keep the buckets in place. One of the bucket bottom holes slides over the nail. 1

  • I used (2) 8ft 1x4's and (1) 8ft. 1x2 cut down to 22" long to create 4 bookshelves.
  • Using a brad nailer or finishing nails, attach two 1x4's together and attach the 1x2 to the front to make the ledge.
  • It should all go together like this. Use wood filler to fill in any holes or gaps.
  • Sand down the rough edges, add one coat of primer. Then I spray painted with Rustoleum's satin finish in white. After that drys, spray with a clear sealer.
  • Here is the finished product. I used drywall anchors and screws to attach it to the wall.

Storing Sheets in Pillowcases

Is it worth it? Trying to be like Martha Stewart, I mean? Clean house, amazing food, super organized, nifty crafts accomplished. The truth is, it is out of my reach. And I am okay with it. I have a friend who taught me a wonderful phrase. When you notice something about yourself that is not so hot, just remind yourself, I am good at other things. But when I see ideas like this ...»
from Martha's website, I wonder if that one, just that one, might be possible for me. I found it. This is the one. This is an idea that is doable and worth it.
