What to use other than chalk paint to paint mason jars

I want to paint and distress mason jars but can't get chalk paint. Is there any other paint I can use to get the same outcome as chalk paint?

I just ordered chalk paint online-received it in 4 days. Annie Sloan chalk paint--its the best.

Make your own chalk paint ... mix 2 TBSP of Plaster of Paris with 2 TBSP of hot water to a creamy consistency....add to 1 cup of FLAT latex paint and mix well! Also, you can add a little more water if it thickens too much. p.s. The sample pots at HD are PERFECT for this! Paint on Cathy!

Yes you can make your own! If you can use unsanded tile grout or plaster of paris. I would put my paint in a throw away container like a small sour cream container, then I would mix the plaster of Paris with a few drops of water, just enough to make a slurry and then mix it into the paint. That way you won't have the clumps when painting! Have fun!

I make my chalk paint using 1 cup of flat latex paint and 1/4 cup baking soda, add a few drops of water if needed to thin and mix really well by stirring or shaking. This makes a velvety paint that sticks to anything just like chalk paint and is the most cost effective method I have found.

Here's one....SUPER EASY...SO BEAUTIFUL....Epsom Salts...water down white glue and "paint" it on jar; roll in Epsom salt...I like the look of varying your "paint" line...makes it look more like snow...I do this with $ Store candles all the time and they look AMAZING

Cathy, not sure what you are looking for, if you can't purchase it and you can't make it with the suggestions above? One thing you might try, if you have a Home Depot near you. They sell little paint pots of Behr matte finish for $2.94 here in the US. They will custom blend any color in their palette for you. This paint has a nice matte finish that you can then sand and distress, but you would need to prime the glass first to make sure the paint will stick to the glass. That is the beauty of chalk paint, it needs no primer. I often buy these and make them into pints of chalk paint with plaster of Paris and calcium carbonate. I am not sure if you have a Michael's Crafts store in Canada, but Americana makes a very nice chalky paint that you could try. They also carry a new line of Krylon Chalk Spray paint in beautiful colors. Hope this helps!

Use vasoline on an areas you don't want paint then use a can of flat spray paint. When paint is dry wipe off the vasoline. TaDa. I am just clutching at straws here but that would take the least amount of work.
