Stephanie on Feb 20, 2015Minerals in hard water form with the fatty acids in soaps/shampoos to form soap scum, which is technically a salt. Vinegar is acidic and will clean it off very effectively, as will boric acid. It's all about the pH. Aside from being unsightly, soap scum can harbor pathogenic bacteria.
