Too much extravagance! Imagine how many homes could have been built in Africa or South America with all the materials used for this home. Nice but too perfect and like Karen said, not very cozy or friendly...
I would take a cozy log cabin over this house anyday. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful but it's too big and doesn't have that "cozy" feeling that I love.
I have seen hotels in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, with open wall like this, since it's always warm, but they have roll down curtains in case of rain storms. I didn't see any evidence of that. I wonder too, if you can't close off that part, what about bats, moths and mosquitoes? I would be so bitten and stung!
This is the most beautiful home I have ever seen. I would be proud and honored to live in it. The person responsible for this is not only a genius but has impeccable taste. Clearly the public at large can manage to pick anything apart, but I wonder how much of it comes from envy....I know I am in awe!
Vera, yes I can, but I can better imagine the many families that could been given even just one room to live in. Ever traveled to other parts of the world and seen the poverty there?....where the clothes that they're wearing are the only possessions they have? I have, and I've seen "homes" made out of cardboard by the hundreds built on the side of a road. No one is saying the house isn't awesome, I'm just its saying too extravagant.
Years ago, there were some beautiful homes shown on email, including Tiger Wood's place. Also, extravagant and sumptuous. Many homes are even more lovely than the above. @ Angela, I can understand your sadness at seeing the way others live, but even though I am extremely left/Liberal, I still think that if you can afford a luxury home, why not? I lived in Indonesia where the houses are made of mud brick (Even watched a delightful, smiling man making the bricks!) Though the homes were

clean and quite cozy, I hated to see all the cold, white neon lights at night. Very off-putting, but of course the people were used to it. The most sensible thing there is that the kitchen is separate from the main house, usually on the other side of a shady garden that often has pomello and other fruit trees.
Don't forget too, how many people benefited from the building and furnishing of that home, even down to the finding of the smooth stones, sewing all those cushions and landscaping the pool and surrounding. My partner is somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades and built a beautiful blue stone patio behind a friend's restaurant, and later, a slate and grey stone garden walk for a friend by the sea. We benefited quite a bit from both jobs.
Marg, I agree. This is a beautiful house, but I believe that after about 4 days in it, I would want to go home! It has obviously been staged so it has absolutly no homey feel. But then I guess if you can afford a place like this you can afford the people it takes to keep it looking this way! I would love to see what it would look like with a soccor team of kids running through it! Hee, hee! (I did not see a single inviting "sink down into it" type chair or sofa. Where would you go and cuddle down if you had a bad day or a cold?)
I think you are right Steve G ,anyone with this kind of money probably doesnt live there all the time. I do appreciate the beauty, I also know people with money have to dooo something with it, and luxury homes is one way besides their charitable activities. Even when the owners are not home, they are providing jobs, this has to be maintained.I could see a luxury vacation here for myself! Rather , I can imagine it! ha
I see your point Jeanette but you asked where would you cuddle down if you had a bad day? The whole house is a bad day picker upper!! Coming home to this would cheer me up enough lol.. As far as a soccer team of kids..lets just say if they're discipline enough to win games they're discipline enough to help clean the house! LOL.. But yes it's it doesn't have that lived in look..but even my small home would look the same if I knew someone was coming to take pictures ;)
The house is gorgeous.....
