How to make a faux fireplace out of cardboard?

How can I make a faux fireplace with a left over cardboard box?

If you can it would be really hard because the flames will just burn right through the cardboard.

Send me a request, and I'll be glad to have you for friend, too. I put an electric heater that 'burns flames' (not really burns, decorative) in behind the fireplace ... Make your shape and paint the fire box area black and the outside a white -grey. Get a rectangular shaped sponge and rip a few small pieces out of the edge of the sponge- bricks are not perfect. Get a brick red paint and sponge dip on the brick pattern.

Many years ago, I made one with shoe boxes donated by a shoe store. I arranged them on the floor, and stapled them in place (no lids used). I painted then red and then put puffy paint in between to make that look like mortar. For the flames, I got tissue papers that were red, orange and yellow.  I also had while that I tinted with food coloring to make them look like tie die. I arranged them on paper towel tubes (my logs) and put a battery closet light behind them. The a/c hitting it would make the tissue paper 'flicker' just enough that it looked real enough for us.
