Cool, but if Lemon Juice will work wouldn't vinegar work also? -
Sharron W I'm not sure. It would seem so, since both are acidic but I honestly am not sure. Would be good to test it out on something. -
I wonder if that would work on old kitchen utensils ?...I'll have to give it a try -
Carolyn good advise. I have also soaked the area in lemon juice - from the bottle - and set it in the sun, this works for light rust stain. As for vinegar working I am not sure, it is acidic, but I have read that it is the citric acid that has an effect on rust. -
Will this work on colored clothing? -
if all else fails...try using a paste made with Barkeepers Friend and a little water...works like a charm! Works great on utensils! -
I have done this, but my instructions were to place the item in bright sun on a grassy area because chlorophyll is part of the bleaching process. -
Great tips everyone! Elsie I don't know about colored clothing. You may want to do a small test first. -
There is a product on the market by Whink called Rust Stain Remover. I have used it for 50 years. I have never tried it on anything other than material. It is not real strong and sometimes I just keep sprinkling until the stain is gone. ..usually in a couple of minutes or less. FYI always use bleach as a last resort, it will usually 'set' any stain it doesn't remove. -
Do you have a remedy for mustard stains? I hate them more than rust stains ... -
Kathy McBride - I have found a quick soak in oxy-clean works like a charm - should do before washing. -
Thanks, Gail ... but I had tried that with no luck; however, I did try the lemon juice/salt recommended as a rust stain remover and it worked like a charm on mustard stains.
