Vintage deck. I photographed this deck today. Can you guess how old it is? See below for hints.

When this deck was built-

My cell phone was the size of a car battery

There were no digital cameras

My youngest daughter was not born yet

Contempory house style was the rage

I had blonde hair

Answer 1997, did you guess it right? How about close? 15 year old STK cedar deck. Has a little rot in the decking, but 98% still looks great.

Great deck, but I have to quibble with one of your facts. Some newspaper photographers and other folks had digital cameras in 1997.

I guessed 1981...was way off. Our 1970 deck was re-braced with wooden posts when the metal ones began to deteriorate in 1985 and it is still in perfect shape 42 years later! We added a big deck in 1999 and it is still in perfect shape. We check it often to make sure the banding board is solid!

Steve G- Oops. All of my original photos were prints, (although maybe they were digital, and I printed them) Doug- It looks great because the homeowner keeps good care of this deck, cleaned (with deck cleaner, not power washer) and preserved it every other year. This year he used a darker stain, it almost looks like Ipe.

Uuuhhhh....8^} I'm with Steve on quibbling......your car either has a small battery or you had an old phone. I got rid of my brick phone in 93 or 94 at the latest. And, though most "average folks" didn't have a digital camera or may not have even heard of them, they were around before this deck was. But then I'm a camera and especially Kodak nut so not everyone would know that bit of info. The first digital camera was invented by an engineer for Kodak in 1975. I find it heart breaking that ...»
with all their work on digital cameras and they might be going under. They filed bankruptcy earlier this year. 8-^(

That being said, that deck looks absolutely amazing for it's age. I only hope each of ours last that long. They too are all cedar.

I still have my first cell phone and just about everyone since then. My first one was in an aluminum brief case. I'm thinking of creating a cell phone "museum" at my design center just for kicks.

Oh I think that's an awesome idea! I've been collecting old Kodak cameras to display in our Lady's Parlor with old photographs my Mom took and newer ones I took. My Daddy always took movies so I'm hoping to be able to get them transferred to digital so I can put them in digital frames.
