Under the stairs space

Stephanie on Dec 11, 2014Depending on what you need the storage for, I would do a few deep drawers on the bottom. Maybe for storing long things like wrapping paper, or extra pillows and blankets. Maybe some cubes on top of the drawers for shoe storage, I'm thinking like those ones with the doors that hinge at the bottom. Then on top of that just some shelving for books? :-)Helpful Reply

Linda Germana on Dec 12, 2014This would be a great place for a small built in desk. I did see a fantastic idea for storage drawers under the stairs but you would need to open those drawers from the side where the short wall is.Helpful Reply

Shiree McCarver on Dec 12, 2014Obviously you will need to add to that recess wall and bring it on out to the end so then you only have to build a frame for a door and build the wall space around it. Decide if you want to put shelves on the wall to hold toys or books for your children or to just have a place to put a toy box so they can clean up there stuff at the end of the day. http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/how-to-build-a-closet-under-stairs/index.htmlHelpful Reply

Lori on Dec 12, 2014I am guessing you want a coat closet since the front door is right there. Would there be any way you could have a wall built to close in the whole space, put a door in the front, have a rod installed inside and shelves at the end. It looks like you have plenty of room. It really shouldn't cost that much.Helpful Reply

DeMarie I on Dec 12, 2014Perhaps make a long closet (using the whole space) and use the rolling farm doors on tracks so that you don't have one small door in the middle or at the end, rather big sliding doors so you can use the whole space. You could divide it in two with one end for hanging coats, etc and more towards under the stairs - built ins that have drawers and/or shelves of different sizes for different types of things, like games, or extra bedding, wrapping papers, etc.Helpful Reply

Janet Cowlan on Dec 30, 2014Yes, long tracks and sliders... I would put a closet bar on the left side, (behind the door) and keep the rest as storage.Helpful Reply
